About
Where We Came From
Pedalpalooza is a community-organized festival of "Bike Fun" that originated in Portland in 2002 when a traveling event called "Bike Summer" chose to take residency in town. Cyclists in Portland enjoyed gathering and riding together so much, they decided to host a similar festival the next year, coining the experience "PEDALPALOOZA!"
You can see the complete listing of all past rides here.
Where We Are
Pedalpalooza is a female-led 501.c.3 with fiscal sponsorship under Umbrella, via Shift. The festival is volunteer run and funded by donations, sale of merchandise, sponsorships, and the occasional grant (thanks, Awesome Portland!).
This year, due to Covid-19, we have decided to expand the festival June to all of summer. With rides in June, July, and August, there will be ample time for you to get your Covid-19 vaccine before you join any festivities.
Every ride is planned by community members just like you. It's easy to participate. To lead a ride, all you have to do is upload your idea and to join a ride, all you need to do is show up! Most events are free, and everyone is welcome.
All ride leaders agree to foster a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof). If you ever experience unacceptable behavior, please inform Shift's Code of Conduct Committee as soon as possible.
Where We Are Going
To honor the diversity of cyclists, and foster space safe for all riders, we recognize that as a historically majority white-led festival we must actively dismantle the systems big and small that oppress so many people within our community. Here are some hopes for our future: New organizers, ride leaders, and participants.
