Meditate

Find a quiet place to pause for a bit.

If you’re new to meditating, listening to a guided meditation can be helpful. UCLA Mindful offers free beginner meditations in English and Spanish, which can be streamed on the web or through their app.

There are thousands more meditations available through YouTube and meditation apps. One popular paid app, Headspace, is currently offering a free one year subscription to anyone who has lost their job in the pandemic. Another popular app that’s free to everyone is Insight Timer.

However, no app or streaming service is required. If you'd rather keep it simple, just find a comfortable seat, set a timer (3 minutes is a good starting point), and focus on your breath. Don’t worry if you get distracted; just bring your mind back to your breath and practice being present in the moment.

Do Yoga

Yoga in your yard! Stretch on the sidewalk! Find peace in the park!

Try this 20 minute practice for cyclists. Or this 20 minute practice for complete beginners. Or support one of these Portland yoga studios offering streaming classes.

Celebrate Sobriety

Treat yourself extra special if you're sober or congratulate a friend who is clean and sober.

Portland AA Intergroup and Portland NA list meetings and resources. It's currently unknown which groups may be hosting in person meetings by June 30th. Otherwise most are available by Zoom meetings.

Treat Yourself

Make some me time and get yourself a sweet treat.

Try one of these local ice cream shops currently slinging scoops, support a black owned business such as Fat Cupcake, Donut Queen, or Hana's Authentic New Orleans Snowballs, or try the 24 hour no contact dessert vending machine at Pix Patisserie.

Treat Your Bike

Give your bike a spa day and enjoy a cleaner, smoother ride!

Here’s a simple step by step guide to cleaning your trusty steed. You can buy tools and soaps designed specifically for bikes, but some rags, old toothbrushes, and dish soap will get the job done as well. Just make sure to use a bicycle specific chain lube. If you have a leather saddle, massage a little leather conditioner into it. Now take a picture of your sparkling clean bike and go for a ride!
